Plastic Free Packaging

It’s time to reduce our consumption of single-use plastic. Which is why our key pen ranges come in plastic free packaging, developed with environmental concerns at its core.

You expect innovation, attention to detail and quality when it comes to our pens, so why should it be any different for our packaging? We have thought through every aspect of our plastic free packaging so it’s as eco-friendly as possible. Every effort has been made from sourcing to manufacturing to ensure our plastic-free packaging reduces its carbon footprint.

Fully biodegradable and recyclable

As well as being plastic-free, the new packs are completely biodegradable and recyclable. The pack’s board is climate-neutral; made from 100% PEFC certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) – the world’s largest forest certification system for sustainable forest management. Inks are vegetable rather than mineral-based, the latter often being derived from fossil fuels. The packs use a non-toxic, water-based blister varnish that does not affect composting or cause environmental damage. Plus its gloss UV Varnish uses energy-efficient UV light to finish. The result? Fantastic looking packaging that’s completely recyclable, biodegradable and compostable.

A greener process

But it’s not just the materials, the production process is more energy efficient too. We use chemical-free Kodak computer-to-plate technology with a direct dampening system that enables non-alcohol printing using the minimum amount of water. The packaging is printed using the Komori Press, which boasts one of the shortest press set-up available anywhere. This significantly cuts paper and water waste while vastly reducing the use of press consumables. What’s more, we have used our established UK-based printer to produce the new packaging ensuring minimal set-up and reducing air-miles.

While currently available across the company’s key ranges, we are hoping, in time, to eventually expand our plastic free packaging to cover the entire uni-ball pen range. Watch this space.
