One pen, many uses
POSCA paint markers are great value because one pen has so many uses. It contains a water-based pigment ink (so no nasties) which is lightfast, water resistant and will write on almost any surface including ceramics, wood, paper, glass, plastic, textiles and metal. So practice this design on paper and then you can use your 1MR POSCAs to work this motif on surfaces such as fabric, leather, glass and wood.
We practiced this POSCA design on an Art Gecko Freestyle sketchbook. These sketchbooks have been specially designed to work beautifully with POSCAs. The pens colours really pop from the pages and drawing is super smooth on the book’s gorgeous 250 gsm paper.
Let your creativity shine with POSCA, this multi-use paint marker is available in a number of vibrant, opaque solid colours. You can mix the shades while the paint is wet and overlay colours on top of one another when they dry. With POSCA the possibilities are endless.
1: Patterned heart, make your shape
Make a symmetrical heart shape template by folding paper in half and using scissors to cut a half heart shape on the crease. Open up the folded paper to reveal your shape.
Use the template as a guide and pencil your heart shape.
2: Illustrated pattern, start drawing
Using your black POSCA 1MR, fill your pencil heart shape with small curved lines. Make sure you have plenty of space around the lines as you will be adding leaves and other motifs around the marks.
3: Patterned heart, draw leaves
To transform these lines into a cool, botanical themed motifs, add leaves. Do this by making a little loop at the top of the line. Then make side-on figures on eight along the line, with the middle of the ‘8’ falling in the centre of the line as shown. Now colour in.
4: Illustrated pattern, fill in the gaps
The marvellous thing about POSCA 1MR pens is that their fine line allows you to create small fiddly marks. Use a red POSCA 1MR to fill in the spaces between your leafy sprig design. We’ve chosen simple dots, hearts and kisses but you could fill it with flowers and other botanical motifs. Take a look at our flower drawing tutorial here.
